Ghana and Trinidad and Tobago have signed an Air Services Agreement aimed at expanding air connectivity between the two countries and opening new avenues for bilateral trade and cooperation.
The agreement was signed Tuesday in New York during a meeting between Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama and Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, S.C., on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
Mr. Mahama said the agreement would strengthen air links between the two countries while creating opportunities to broaden economic and diplomatic ties.
“This agreement strengthens air connectivity and creates new opportunities for cooperation between our countries,” Mr. Mahama said in a Facebook post.
The two leaders also discussed trade and investment, as well as updates to the reparations agenda, signaling a broader effort to deepen relations between Ghana and the Caribbean nation.
The reparations discussions form part of wider engagement between African and Caribbean countries over the legacy of slavery and other historical injustices, as well as efforts to strengthen cooperation on shared interests.
The meeting took place as Mr. Mahama was in New York for diplomatic engagements connected to the United Nations General Assembly.
