The Ghanaian Ministry of Food and Agriculture has announced that the 40th National Farmers’ Day celebration will take place on November 8, 2024, in Accra. Traditionally held on December 1, the date has been moved this year to accommodate the upcoming general elections.

The theme for this milestone event is “Building Climate-Resilient Agriculture for Sustainable Food Security.” The celebration aims to underscore Ghana’s dedication to adopting agricultural practices that mitigate the effects of climate change.

Ahead of Farmers’ Day, a five-day National Agricultural Fair, Agrifest Ghana 2024, will run from November 4 to 8. Agrifest will highlight Ghana’s agricultural achievements and serve as a platform for sharing knowledge and innovation. The event is expected to bring together farmers, agricultural experts, and stakeholders from across the country.

The celebrations will culminate in an awards ceremony on November 8, with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo set to honour outstanding farmers. Sixteen categories of awards will be presented, including Overall National Best Farmer, National Best Livestock Farmer, National Best Female Farmer, and National Best Physically Challenged Farmer.

The event seeks to foster dialogue and encourage adaptation to climate challenges, promoting sustainable practices within the agricultural sector.
