The 8th Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana has officially dissolved, bringing an end to its legislative term that began in 2021. The dissolution ceremony, presided over by Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, marks a significant moment in Ghana’s democratic history.

In a recent interview with Channel One TV, former Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu criticised the 8th Parliament for its failure to effectively address excessive government borrowing. He argued that the hung parliament, despite its potential for balancing power, did not sufficiently hold the executive accountable, which he believes contributed to the country’s ongoing economic difficulties.

Iddrisu suggested that a more proactive stance by Parliament could have played a crucial role in preventing the rising national debt, which remains a pressing challenge for Ghana.
