The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG), has announced a nationwide strike set to begin on Thursday, November 7, 2024, in response to prolonged delays in finalising a revised salary structure.

In a statement, CLOGSAG said it had issued a notice on October 23, setting an October 31 deadline for the government to resolve outstanding issues regarding salary adjustments and other conditions of service. According to the union, the government missed that deadline, and discussions since then have failed to yield a “concrete offer.”

CLOGSAG expressed frustration with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), accusing the agency of acting “in bad faith” throughout negotiations. The union has decided to cut ties with the FWSC and says members now feel they have “no other option” but to strike.

“As a result of the delay in the completion of a salary structure and other conditions of service, CLOGSAG members have no other option than to stay at home from November 7, 2024,” the statement read.

The strike could bring significant disruption to government operations, with the union warning that the industrial action will persist unless the government addresses their concerns before the January 1, 2025, implementation date for the new salary structure.
