Ghana’s President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has warned that any attempts to disrupt the nation’s democratic process ahead of the December 7 general elections will be “fiercely resisted.”

In his final address at the National Best Farmer Awards, President Akufo-Addo pledged a steadfast commitment to ensuring peace and security during this crucial electoral period. Emphasizing the country’s democratic achievements, he declared that the integrity of the upcoming election is a top priority.

Reflecting on the work and sacrifices that have gone into building Ghana’s democracy, Akufo-Addo praised the contributions of past leaders, civil society groups, and citizens in fostering a stable political environment. He reminded the public that Ghana’s democratic values have become a model on the continent and called on all Ghanaians to protect this legacy.

“As we approach the 2024 general elections, let me make one thing absolutely clear. I am unwavering in my commitment to free, fair, and transparent elections,” said Akufo-Addo. “The sovereignty of the Ghanaian people will be respected, and any effort to disrupt peace or undermine the democratic process will face the full force of the law.”

The president urged political leaders, supporters, and citizens to prioritise unity and peace, stressing that Ghana’s democratic principles must remain safeguarded. “Our democracy is a treasure we have all fought to build and a legacy that must be protected,” he said, adding that the people’s choice would ultimately prevail.
