The Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications has reported that telecom companies in the country contributed over GH₵9.83 billion in taxes and other payments in 2023, marking a significant increase of about 30 percent compared to the GH₵6 billion paid in 2022.

This contribution represents roughly 7.38 percent of Ghana’s total revenue for 2023.

Speaking at the launch of the Transparency Initiative Report, the Chief Executive Officer of the Chamber, Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey, highlighted the crucial role the telecommunications industry plays in Ghana’s economic growth. He emphasized the sector’s significant tax contributions, describing them as progressive.

Dr. Ashigbey noted, “When we consider the total taxes paid and other remittances made to government agencies, the overall sum amounts to GH₵9.8 billion in 2023, which represents approximately 7.4 percent of the government’s total revenue.”

Apart from its financial contributions, the telecom industry also created 2,464 direct jobs in 2023, a slight decrease from the 2,600 jobs provided in 2022.

These statistics are part of the Transparency Initiative Report, jointly released by the Ghana Telecommunications Chamber and the Electronic Money Issuers Chamber of Ghana, which details the economic impact of the telecommunications sector.
