The Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West, Gizella Tetteh Agbotui, has pledged to firmly oppose any efforts to rig the upcoming parliamentary elections in her constituency.
Ms Tetteh, representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC), expressed concerns about alleged attempts by members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to sway the December vote in favour of their candidate, Eugene Arhin. She vowed to protect the integrity of the electoral process, saying she would not allow any manipulation of the vote.
Awutu Senya West has traditionally elected MPs for only one term, but Ms Tetteh believes her support within the constituency remains strong. She highlighted a desire among voters to end this pattern and allow her to serve a second term, breaking from local tradition.
Following a visit from former President John Dramani Mahama, who toured the region as part of his campaign efforts, Ms Tetteh said she was confident she could make history as the first MP in Awutu Senya West to secure a second term.
“I am putting it on record that if any attempt is made to rig this election, I will resist it fiercely,” Ms Tetteh said. “One plus one must be equal to two—not five. We need to ensure the votes from our constituency are correctly counted.”
She added, “The people have assured me of their support. They understand it’s time to end this one-term MP pattern. I won’t sit back and watch the will of the people be manipulated.”
