The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has issued a public apology following disparaging comments made by a member of its Public Relations team, ADOI Alex King Nartey, regarding a recent fire incident in the Adum area of Kumasi.

In a formal statement, the Fire Service expressed its “unreserved and profound apologies” to the Ashanti Regional Minister and Chair of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), acknowledging that the remarks made were disrespectful. “On behalf of myself and the entire Ghana National Fire Service, we unreservedly extend our profound and sincerest regret for any unfortunate comment made against your good self and reputable office,” the statement read.

The Fire Service recognized the critical role played by the Regional Minister in coordinating the response to the fire. “We appreciate your contributions, sacrifices, and untiring efforts that contributed to the operational response and management of this unfortunate fire incident,” the statement continued.

Assuring the public of corrective measures, the GNFS pledged to take disciplinary action against the officer involved. “Appropriate disciplinary measures shall be taken to prevent a recurrence of this unfortunate incident,” it said.

The statement further emphasized the Fire Service’s ongoing commitment to reducing fire outbreaks in the Ashanti Region. “Please accept this apology, and be informed of our profound and invaluable support towards the reduction of fire outbreaks in the Ashanti Region,” it concluded.

The public relations team has promised to address the matter internally to prevent similar incidents in the future, underscoring their commitment to professionalism and accountability.
