The Goaso Traditional Council has announced a ban on Valentine’s Day celebrations in the Goaso area, citing traditional customs ahead of the one-week memorial for the late Paramount Chief, Nana Kwasi Bosomprah.

At a press conference, elders of the council, dressed in black, made it clear that any public display of Valentine’s Day festivities would not be tolerated. They explained that the decision was made to ensure solemnity and respect during the period leading up to the chief’s funeral rites.

While Valentine’s Day itself has not been outlawed, the council has prohibited any visible celebrations, such as decorations, public parties, and themed events. The directive has raised eyebrows, with some residents applauding the move as a sign of respect for tradition, while others have voiced disappointment over the restrictions.

As the ban takes effect, the community’s mixed reactions highlight the ongoing debate between modern celebrations and traditional customs.
