The government has annulled two controversial sales of diplomatic properties in Nigeria and Zambia, transactions initiated under the previous Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration. Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced the cancellation during a parliamentary session, with the backing of President Mahama.
In a statement shared on his official Facebook page on March 29, Minister Ablakwa emphasized the government’s commitment to protecting Ghana’s diplomatic assets. “We mean it when we say no diplomatic property belonging to the people of Ghana will be sold under our watch,” he asserted.
Mr. Ablakwa also revealed that efforts are underway to recover part of a payment made in one of the transactions, which he described as illegal. He warned that those responsible for the sales, who are currently evading authorities, will be tracked down and held accountable. “The principles of ORAL, our firm opposition to State Capture, and the national interest will continue to drive our decisions,” he added.
The minister issued a clear message to those attempting to privatize the country’s diplomatic assets, stating that none of Ghana’s 71 diplomatic properties, either at home or abroad, are for sale. “Notice is hereby served: hands off!” he declared.
