The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has reported a hotel in Accra New Town to the Nima Police Division, following allegations that minors were allowed onto the premises for inappropriate activities.

The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the GTA, Abeiku Santana, confirmed the report on Tuesday after a video circulating on social media raised concerns about Royal Dede Beach Resort.

In the footage, a woman accuses the hotel of enabling minors to engage in intimate activities. The incident has sparked public outcry, prompting swift action from the tourism regulator.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) dated 23 April, Mr Santana stated: “The Ghana Tourism Authority has taken swift action following reports circulating on social media regarding concerns of minors allegedly taken to a hotel in Accra New Town. The case has been reported to the Nima Police Division for investigation.”

He added that during an inspection, the Authority discovered that the facility had been converted into a hostel without informing the GTA, and was operating in violation of national tourism regulations.

“Our team inspected Royal Dede Beach Resort, which has been converted into a hostel under new management without official notification to the Ghana Tourism Authority. We discovered that the hostel’s operations were not in compliance with Regulations 2016, L.I. 2239,” he said.

The operator has since been referred to the Standards and Quality Assurance Department of the Authority for regulatory compliance procedures.

The investigation remains ongoing.
