The Akanu Sector Command of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has intercepted 54 gallons of fuel at Kopeyia near the Kpoglo Border Post on suspicion of an attempt to smuggle them into Togo.

A press statement made available to the Ghana News Agency and signed by Mr Michael Amoako-Atta, Assistant Commissioner of Immigration and Head of Public Affairs, said the arrest was made by Inspector Ebenezer Asa-Appiah, Asst Insp Isreal Gidisu and ICO Benjamin Prah during routine patrols.

The statement said the gallons were on board a Toyota Carina vehicle with Togolese registration number TG 9378 AQ and had since been tested by officials of the National Petroleum Authority, Ho.

The GIS cautioned border residents and the public against acts that were against the laws of the country and adversely affected Ghana’s economy.

“Residents are further cautioned that the Service is on a heightened border patrols along the borders, especially the unapproved ones, and anyone caught engaged in cross border crimes will be made to face the full rigors of the law,” it added.
