Interior Minister, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, has backed the actions of National Security operatives who attempted to arrest Ernest Yaw Kumi, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Akwatia, following a court conviction.
In Parliament on Tuesday, March 18, Mubarak addressed questions regarding the controversial incident, stating that the security officers were simply carrying out a legal directive. Kumi had been convicted by a Koforidua High Court for defying an injunction and attending the swearing-in ceremony for new MPs.
“The Koforidua High Court issued an arrest warrant for Ernest Yaw Kumi on February 19, 2025,” Mubarak explained. “This was served to the National Security through the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) Eastern office, via the National Security Coordinator.”
The Interior Minister emphasized that the attempted arrest was fully in line with the court’s orders, adding, “The actions taken by the NIB officers were in compliance with the High Court’s ruling and the warrant issued for contempt.”
