The Appointments Committee of Ghana’s Parliament is set to vet Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, the Minister-Designate for the Interior, on January 24.
Muntaka Mubarak, a seasoned politician and long-serving Member of Parliament for Asawase in the Ashanti Region, has a political career spanning over two decades. He has established himself as a significant figure in Ghanaian politics, particularly through his work in his constituency and his national contributions.
Muntaka has represented Asawase since 2005 and previously served as Minister for Youth and Sports under the late President John Evans Atta Mills. During his tenure, he was instrumental in advancing youth empowerment and sports development, despite facing various challenges.
His nomination as Interior Minister signals confidence in his ability to manage a critical portfolio responsible for national security and public safety. If approved, Muntaka will oversee the Ministry of the Interior, which manages key agencies such as the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana National Fire Service, and the Narcotics Control Commission.
As Interior Minister, Muntaka will be expected to ensure the effective operation of these agencies, addressing emerging security concerns and upholding the rule of law. His role will also involve shaping policies to support Ghana’s broader goals of stability, peace, and sustainable development.
