Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak has directed the Ashanti Regional Police Command to take immediate action against “Tinker Island,” a notorious drug den in Kumasi, as part of efforts to combat the escalating drug trafficking and abuse crisis in the region.

Tinker Island, a known hotspot for illegal drug trade and abuse, has long been a source of concern for both residents and law enforcement. The area has developed a reputation as a key hub for drug distribution, attracting dealers and users from across the Kumasi metropolis.

During a recent engagement with the Ashanti Regional Police, Mubarak addressed the growing problem of drug-related crimes and violence, which have been on the rise in the city. He highlighted that drug operations in Tinker Island are conducted openly, with dealers using the area as a base for their illicit dealings.

Mubarak emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating that it was critical to address the problem head-on. He has given the Regional Police Command a six-month deadline to dismantle the drug operations and rid the area of dealers, condemning previous unsuccessful attempts to eradicate the den.

The crackdown is expected to be a significant step in curbing the spread of illegal drug activity and restoring safety to the community, which has been plagued by the violence and instability fueled by the drug trade.
