Interior Ministry Announces March 20, March 23 Public Holidays

Interior Minister Mohammed-Mubarak Mubarak Muntaka,  said Friday,March 20 and March 21, 2026, will be observed as statutory public holidays to mark Eid al-Fitr and  Shaqq Day.


In a statement, the ministry said that because March 21 falls on a Saturday, President John Dramani Mahama has declared Monday, March 23, 2026, an additional public holiday under Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act (Act 601), as amended.


The additional day off is to be observed nationwide.


Eid al-Fitr marks the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan and is celebrated by Muslims in Ghana and around the world with prayers, charitable giving and family gatherings.
