The mother of Edward Omane Boamah has described the period following her son’s death as “really tough,” while expressing appreciation for the support shown by Ghanaians and the government.
Madam Leticia was speaking to journalists at Obomeng in Ghana’s Eastern Region during a ceremony to unveil the Dr Edward Omane Boamah Artificial Intelligence Training Facility, named in honour of the late defence minister.
The centre is intended to promote digital skills among young people and support efforts to bridge the country’s technological gap.
“I am glad. Since we lost him, a lot of people have been of help. They have honoured him,” she said. “I thank you all. I thank the President. I know the Lord will console me because it is really tough.”
She described her son as her only child, noting that he trained as a medical doctor before entering politics out of a desire to serve the country.
The event was attended by senior government officials, traditional leaders and figures from the technology sector, including President John Dramani Mahama.
Dr Boamah died on 6 August 2025 when a Ghana Air Force helicopter crashed while he was travelling from Accra to Obuasi for an official engagement on illegal mining. All eight people on board were killed.
