Energy and Green Transition Minister John Abdulai Jinapor has vowed to take all necessary actions to recover over 1,300 missing containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) or their equivalent monetary value.

An investigative report revealed a significant discrepancy at the Tema Port, where ECG was found to be missing 1,357 containers, which were supposed to contain cables and other critical equipment. The report showed that ECG had claimed to have 2,491 uncleared containers, but an independent audit uncovered only 1,134.

In an interview with Citi FM’s Eyewitness News on Tuesday, Jinapor assured the public that the government would hold those responsible accountable. “Whatever it takes to hold people liable and retrieve the containers or the monetary value, we will do that,” Jinapor said.

In addition to addressing the missing containers, Jinapor highlighted the ongoing challenges in the energy sector, noting that Tullow Ghana had shut down its pipeline due to unpaid legacy bills, which could adversely affect the country’s power supply. “We are doing everything we can to get them to open the pipeline because that will impact power supply,” he said.

The minister also expressed frustration over the persistence of illicit activities in the sector, warning that the government would not tolerate illegal practices that undermine efforts to resolve inherited debts. “While we are searching for funds to pay off debt, others are profiting through illegal means, and we cannot allow that to continue,” Jinapor emphasized.
