Former Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority (NIA), Prof. Ken Attafuah, is requesting that the government formally retract a letter circulating on social media that allegedly revokes his appointment. The letter, which surfaced on January 16, 2025, claims to dismiss Attafuah from his role and instructs him to hand over his responsibilities to Wisdom Yayra Deku, the newly appointed NIA CEO.
In a Facebook post on January 18, Attafuah clarified that he had retired from the Public Service of Ghana on November 13, 2024, following the expiration of his post-retirement contract after turning 65. He emphasized that his exit from the NIA was both lawful and completed with proper handover procedures.
“I handed over my duties to Mr. Mahama Suleman Sualihu, who has been serving as Acting Executive Secretary since November 14, 2024,” Attafuah wrote. He further stated that he had submitted his handover notes and returned all NIA property in his possession.
Attafuah called for the retraction of the letter, stating that it has caused personal embarrassment and undermined the appointment of Mr. Mahama Sualihu as the acting Executive Secretary. He also noted that Dr. Callistus Mahama, Executive Secretary to the President, had assured him that the letter would be withdrawn.
