Ghanaian musician King Promise has been named Artiste of the Year at the 26th edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), held on Saturday 10 May at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre.

The “Terminator II” hitmaker emerged victorious in one of the night’s most competitive categories, beating fellow nominees Stonebwoy, Joe Mettle, Black Sherif, King Paluta, Team Eternity, and Kwaku Smoke.

In a night that celebrated the best of Ghanaian music, fashion and performance, King Promise’s triumph was met with loud cheers both inside the auditorium and across social media.

Other notable winners included Ayisi, Empress Gifty, Stonebwoy, Kofi Kinaata, Esther Godwyll, KiDi, Kweku Smoke, Team Eternity Ghana and Tulenkey. In total, 32 awards were handed out during the ceremony.

Gospel singer Yaw Sarpong received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his decades-long contribution to the gospel music industry.

Delivering an emotional acceptance speech, King Promise paid tribute to his team, family, and longtime collaborator KillBeatz.

“I want to say thank you to one man who trained my life. KillBeatz is a legacy in live entertainment,” he said. “A big thank you to the best fans in the world. If any young person is watching me right now who has a dream, use me as an example of resilience.”

Reflecting on his early struggles in the industry, he added: “My first year when I broke out on the scene, I had seven nominations and left with zero. While some people laughed, I just worked harder because I believe in God’s timing. Today, I’m the chosen one.”

The evening featured electric performances, dazzling visuals and appearances from the top names in Ghana’s entertainment scene, culminating in a career-defining moment for King Promise.
