Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has provided a significant update in the investigation into the death of Joana Deladem Yabani, a student whose tragic passing has cast a shadow over the university community.

In an official statement, KNUST confirmed that authorities have successfully recovered Yabani’s laptop and mobile phone, which were found concealed behind the Flint Hostel. This crucial development follows an in-depth analysis of security footage from the hostel’s surveillance system, which led investigators to the location of the items.

The suspect in connection with the case was formally arraigned at the Circuit Court in Asafo on February 28, 2025. The court has since remanded the individual into custody, with the next hearing scheduled for March 17, 2025.

KNUST has pledged its full cooperation with law enforcement as the investigation continues. The university also expressed appreciation for the prompt action taken by security personnel. In response to the incident, the institution is ramping up its security measures, including enhancing surveillance protocols.

In its statement, KNUST urged students, faculty, and the broader community to maintain composure as the legal process unfolds. The university also extended its condolences to the family and loved ones of Joana Yabani, offering support during this challenging time.
