President John Dramani Mahama has appointed media personality and creative entrepreneur Kofi Okyere-Darko (KOD) as his presidential adviser on Diaspora Affairs, the appointment confirmed on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.

Known for his deep ties to Ghana’s global diaspora, KOD’s new role signals Mahama’s continued focus on strengthening connections with Ghanaians abroad, fostering investment opportunities, and enhancing cultural and economic collaboration.

Kofi Okyere-Darko is the CEO of the fashion brand Nineteen 57 and the founder of the annual Rhythms on Da Runway fashion and music event.

His journey from media personality to entrepreneur has been marked by his extensive work in the creative and fashion industries, both in Ghana and abroad.

Born Richard Aidoo on January 13, 1978, in Winneba, Central Region, KOD comes from a family rooted in public service. His father, James Aidoo, was a retired deputy director of the Ghana Prisons, while his mother, Margaret Aidoo, was a founding member of the 31 December Women’s Movement.

KOD’s education includes attending the Ghana Institute of Journalism, followed by a Master’s in Public Relations from the University of Media, Arts, and Communication (UniMAC). He began his career as a production assistant at Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, eventually working at Radio Gold before heading to the UK. His international experience includes stints with fashion giants like Ted Baker and Paul Smith.

Back in Ghana, KOD has held key roles at EIB Network’s LIVE FM, where he served as a presenter, events manager, and marketing head, all while becoming a well-known MC. His career trajectory and unique blend of media, fashion, and business expertise position him to bridge the gap between Ghana and its diaspora like never before.
