Ghana’s Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has accused the Ranking Member of the Defence and Interior Committee, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, of spreading false information regarding alleged “suspicious flights” at Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
The accusations centre on claims that two aircraft—AirMed Flight N823AM and Cavok Air Antonov An-12B—carried illicit cargo, including cocaine and cash, into the country.
Rev. Fordjour had previously called for an urgent briefing on the matter, prompting President John Dramani Mahama to order an investigation. However, speaking on April 3, Ofosu claimed Fordjour had since distanced himself from his earlier statements, stating that the views he expressed were not his personal opinions but those of the committee he represents.
Mr. Ofosu suggested that Fordjour’s retraction came after he realised his claims were false. “He now says he is unable to cooperate with the security agencies, as his remarks were not his own but those of a committee,” Ofosu said.
The Minister further criticised Fordjour, accusing him of attempting to undermine public trust in the government. “The facts differ completely from the claims made,” he added, suggesting that Fordjour’s actions were designed to damage the government’s reputation.
