The Los Angeles Dodgers clinched their eighth World Series title and first since 2020 by defeating the New York Yankees 7-6 in a thrilling Game 5 at Yankee Stadium, marking the largest comeback in World Series history.

The Dodgers faced an uphill battle, trailing 5-0 after four innings. The Yankees started strong, with Aaron Judge and Jazz Chisholm Jr. hitting back-to-back home runs in the first inning, the first such occurrence for the Yankees in the World Series since 1977. Giancarlo Stanton further boosted New York’s lead with a homer in the third inning, electrifying the home crowd.

However, the game shifted in the fifth inning. Dodgers shortstop Tommy Edman capitalized on a fielding error by Judge, allowing the Dodgers to load the bases. Despite Yankees ace Gerrit Cole striking out two batters, Mookie Betts reached safely, scoring Los Angeles’s first run. MVP Freddie Freeman then delivered a crucial two-run single, followed by a double from Teoscar Hernandez, tying the game at 5-5. Notably, all five runs scored during this inning were unearned.

The Yankees briefly regained the lead in the sixth on Stanton’s sacrifice fly, making it 6-5. But in the eighth inning, the Dodgers took their first lead of the game with sacrifice flies from Gavin Lux and Betts, bringing the score to 7-6.

Key pitching by relievers Blake Treinen and Walker Buehler helped maintain the Dodgers’ advantage. Treinen escaped a late-game jam in the ninth inning, striking out Anthony Rizzo to secure the win.

This victory represents the Dodgers’ first full celebration since their 2020 championship, as the previous win was marked by pandemic restrictions. Manager Dave Roberts, recognized for his leadership throughout the season, embraced the moment with the team and fans alike.
