Kumawood actress Clara Benson, widely known as Maame Serwaa, has dismissed claims that movie producers have ever asked her for sex in exchange for a role. In an interview with Onua FM on March 6, 2025, she addressed the longstanding rumours of sexual exploitation within the industry, stating that none of the producers she has worked with have ever made such requests.

Maame Serwaa, who has enjoyed a successful acting career, revealed her plans to establish her own production company, expressing a desire to further explore the roles of directors and producers. “I’ve always been interested in producing,” she said. “When I was in school, I decided to explore more aspects of the industry. After completing my studies, I spoke to my management about starting my own production and holding auditions for young talents.”

The actress also acknowledged that the perception of ‘sex for roles’ has discouraged aspiring actors and actresses from pursuing their passion for fear of exploitation. She explained that many people are deterred from entering the industry due to concerns about producers requesting sexual favours in exchange for opportunities.

“People have talents in Ghana but are scared to bring themselves on board because of these rumours. Some parents are hesitant to let their children pursue acting because of what they’ve heard,” she said. “But the producers I’ve worked with, all reputable figures in the industry, have never asked for anything like that, and they never will.”

Maame Serwaa is determined to challenge these perceptions and offer a platform for emerging talent to thrive in a professional and ethical environment. “This is the time to prove that it’s not like what people think. If you have the talent, we can help you develop it and help you become a star,” she added.
