French President Emmanuel Macron has conferred the prestigious Grand Officier de la Légion d’Honneur—one of France’s highest honours—upon Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo. The award was presented during Akufo-Addo’s state visit to France on 14 November.

The accolade recognises President Akufo-Addo’s contributions to diplomacy, democratic governance, and international cooperation, according to a statement from Eugene Arhin, Director of Communications at Ghana’s Presidency.

The Légion d’Honneur, created by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802, is France’s most distinguished order of merit, awarded to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional service to France and the world. The title of Grand Officier is among the order’s most prestigious ranks.

The award ceremony followed an official lunch in Paris between President Macron and President Akufo-Addo, marking a significant moment in the relationship between Ghana and France. The two leaders emphasised their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties based on mutual respect, shared values, and collaboration on global issues.
