President John Dramani Mahama has called for an urgent and comprehensive investigation into allegations of drug trafficking and money laundering linked to two suspicious flights at Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
The allegations were brought to light by Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, Member of Parliament for Assin South, who addressed the issue during a press conference on April 1, 2025.
In a statement posted on Facebook, President Mahama affirmed the government’s commitment to transparency and swift action. He has instructed key national security agencies, including the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID), the National Investigations Bureau (NIB), and the National Security Coordinator, to work closely with Rev. Fordjour in thoroughly investigating the claims.
The President assured the public that the full weight of the law would be applied to uncover any illicit activities and hold those responsible accountable. He reiterated Ghana’s firm stance against drug trafficking, emphasizing the country’s zero-tolerance policy on narcotics-related offenses.
Mr. Mahama also pointed to a recent major drug bust by the NIB, which seized narcotics worth an estimated $350 million. He emphasized the government’s commitment to preventing Ghana from being used as a transit or destination point for illegal drugs, underscoring the importance of safeguarding both national security and the country’s international reputation.
