On the occasion of International Women’s Day, former President John Dramani Mahama called for an intensified commitment to women’s empowerment across all sectors of society.

In a message posted on social media, Mr.Mahama stressed the importance of creating a nation where women are provided equal opportunities to realize their full potential.

Highlighting Ghana’s recent strides toward gender equality, Mr. Mahama pointed to the historic election of the country’s first female Vice President as a key achievement. However, he emphasized that further efforts are needed to build on this progress.

“Happy International Women’s Day! This year’s theme, #AccelerateAction, calls for urgent measures to ensure that we achieve gender equality,” Mahama wrote. “Ghana has made significant progress, notably with the election of our first female Vice President. Let’s build on this momentum.”

The  president underscored the necessity of prioritizing women’s participation in education, business, politics, and leadership. He urged collective action from all sectors of society to foster a more inclusive environment, where every woman has the opportunity to succeed.

President Mahama’s remarks reflect the ongoing conversation around gender equality in Ghana and the broader African continent. As the country continues to advance, the focus on empowering women remains central to shaping a more equitable future.
