President John Dramani Mahama has called for a concerted effort to root out corruption within the Ghana Police Service, stressing the importance of transparency and accountability in law enforcement.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the new Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, at the Jubilee House in Accra on Friday, Mahama warned of the negative impact corruption has on both justice and public trust.

“Mr. IGP, your role will also involve rooting out corruption within the service,” President Mahama stated, emphasizing the critical need to address unethical practices within the force.

The President highlighted that corruption undermines the justice system and erodes public confidence in the police. He urged Yohuno to take swift action against any form of misconduct, from bribery to abuse of power, and ensure that officers uphold the highest standards of integrity.

“It is crucial that all forms of unethical behavior, from bribery to the abuse of power, are decisively dealt with,” Mahama added, reinforcing the government’s commitment to strengthening law enforcement institutions and ensuring that they serve the public effectively.
