President John Dramani Mahama has expressed serious concern over the escalating terrorism in West Africa, particularly in the Sahel region, where extremist groups have increasingly threatened regional stability.
During a meeting with Mali’s Prime Minister, General Abdoulaye Maiga, Mahama stressed the urgency of bolstering regional cooperation to counter the rising security challenges. He described the situation as “becoming more grave” and underscored the importance of collaborative efforts to address the growing insurgency and terrorism.
“Our security is a critical priority, and we must work together to ensure the safety of our sub-region,” Mahama said. “The situation in the Sahel continues to deteriorate, and it is vital that we remain united in the fight against these threats.”
Mahama reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to supporting Mali and its neighbours in their battle against terrorism, citing the deep historical ties and shared security interests between the two nations.
In addition to security matters, the two leaders agreed to form joint technical teams to address and resolve bilateral issues, particularly focusing on economic and security cooperation.
Prime Minister Maiga voiced confidence that the strengthened partnership would foster enhanced cooperation, benefiting both countries in their pursuit of stability and development.
