Felix Kwakye Ofosu, acting spokesperson for President John Dramani Mahama, has defended the president’s use of a private jet owned by his brother, Ibrahim Mahama, for official travel to Senegal and The Gambia. Addressing public concerns, Kwakye Ofosu clarified that the jet has been available to the president since before the 2024 general elections.
He emphasized that the arrangement incurs no cost to the Ghanaian taxpayer, with Ibrahim Mahama providing the aircraft free of charge for the trips. Kwakye Ofosu further reassured the public that President Mahama remains committed to the prudent management of public funds, particularly in light of the country’s current economic challenges.
The spokesperson also noted that the official presidential jet is undergoing a review by the Communications Squadron of the Air Force, the unit responsible for its operation, which prompted the temporary use of the private jet.
“The key point is that this arrangement has not cost the taxpayer anything,” Kwakye Ofosu stated in an interview with TV3. He stressed that President Mahama’s priority remains securing the best possible outcomes for Ghana, particularly amid ongoing economic difficulties.
