The Minority in Ghana’s Parliament has urged President John Mahama to take immediate action against attacks on state institutions by supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), which have reportedly increased following his inauguration.
Allegations suggest that NDC supporters have seized control of key state properties and evicted public officers from their official residences.
Addressing journalists in Parliament on Thursday, January 9, Deputy Minority Leader Patricia Appiagyei condemned these actions as “completely unacceptable.”
“These actions are a direct challenge to the rule of law and the sovereignty of the Ghanaian people. Ghana is a constitutional democracy, not a revolutionary state,” she said.
Appiagyei also expressed concerns over the lack of evidence to support the claims made by the perpetrators, who argue they are protecting public property from alleged mismanagement by the previous administration. She pointed out that no formal complaints or concrete evidence have been provided.
The Deputy Minority Leader called on President Mahama to act swiftly to restore law and order and ensure that the principles of constitutional governance are upheld.
