The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has announced plans to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2025, marking half a century of advocating for musicians’ rights and promoting Ghanaian music.
Speaking at a launch event in Accra on 7 November, MUSIGA President Bessa Simons outlined a vibrant programme for the Golden Jubilee, featuring concerts, lectures, symposiums, and a gala dinner.
Among the highlights will be an all-women music festival, a groundbreaking event designed to showcase female musical talent from around the world. MUSIGA has invited international female artists to participate on a self-sponsored basis, with embassies set to publicise the event to attract global talent.
In addition to the women’s festival, the anniversary programme will include both outdoor and indoor events, religious services, and possible performances by international gospel stars, with Cece Winans among the potential headliners. The celebration aims to foster cross-cultural collaboration and strengthen ties between Ghanaian and international artists.
“We are inviting female musicians from all over the world to join us here in Ghana,” Mr. Simons said. “We hope to create a space for unity and harmony between our artists and performers worldwide.”
