The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is projected to secure a parliamentary majority in Ghana’s December 7 elections, according to the latest forecast from Global InfoAnalytics.

The analysis predicts the NDC will win around 150 of the 275 parliamentary seats, giving it control of the legislature. The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is expected to secure 99 seats, with one seat going to an independent candidate. However, 29 constituencies remain too close to call, indicating a highly competitive race.

On the presidential front, the NDC’s John Dramani Mahama is projected to win 52.2% of the vote, ahead of his closest rival, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the NPP, who is forecast to receive 41.4%. Other candidates, including Alan Kyerematen and Nana Kwame Bediako, are expected to garner 2.5% and 3.0% respectively, with 0.9% of votes likely going to other contenders.

The forecast shows Mahama is likely to win in 10 regions, including Greater Accra, Central, Volta, and Northern, while Bawumia is expected to perform strongly in Ashanti, Eastern, and North East regions.

The NDC’s projected parliamentary success is attributed to shifting voter sentiment in key constituencies, influenced by economic and social factors. The overall voter turnout is forecast to be 77.6%, with regional dynamics playing a pivotal role in the final outcome.

With 29 seats still in contention, both major parties are expected to focus heavily on swing constituencies in the coming days.
