The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has revealed that it trained 153,000 individuals as part of its extensive preparations for the December 7 elections, according to Dr Edward Omane Boamah, the party’s Director of Elections and IT.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on December 11, Dr Omane Boamah outlined the scale of the training programme, which involved a rigorous selection process. “I personally trained all 47 constituency trainers in the Ashanti Region,” he said, adding that the training was conducted across the country with national trainers providing additional guidance.

The training was not just instructional; participants were required to pass exams with set benchmarks. However, despite the large pool of trained agents, challenges arose in polling station coverage. “Some polling stations had as many as four agents, while others had none,” Dr Omane Boamah explained. While 87,000 agents were ultimately selected, distribution gaps persisted.

Dr Omane Boamah also credited the party’s technological innovations for the efficiency of its election monitoring. He acknowledged Yayra Koku and Atta Boateng, who developed the system used to oversee election processes. The system, which had been tested during the Assin North by-election, helped the NDC monitor results in real time.

“We expected to collate 85% of the results by 11:30 pm, but by 7 pm, we knew we had won,” he said, noting that by that time, data from 20,000 polling stations showed a strong trend in their favour.

Additionally, the NDC provided tablets to 300 key officials, including lawyers, to ensure smooth coordination during the election. Each constituency had a lawyer on standby to address any legal challenges.

Dr Omane Boamah attributed the success of the party’s election strategy to the collective effort of its constituency and regional executives, polling agents, and ground teams, whose preparedness ensured the effective implementation of plans on election day.
