Alhaji Mohammed Frimpong, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Party (NDP), and his campaign team were attacked by armed assailants in the Bono Region of Ghana late on Tuesday, November 26.
The attack occurred around 11 p.m. while the team was travelling between Nsakaw and Wenchi, returning from a campaign tour in Namasa, within the Tain Constituency. The group was ambushed by masked gunmen, who fired at the vehicle indiscriminately.
According to Evans Ofori, the Bono Regional Chairman of the NDP, the team initially mistook the roadblock for a police checkpoint. However, upon approaching, they were confronted by the attackers, who began shooting at them. The vehicle’s windows were shattered, though fortunately, no one sustained serious injuries, with some team members suffering minor cuts from the glass.
Mr Ofori praised the police officer who had been accompanying the team, noting that his quick actions helped prevent further harm. The police were able to respond swiftly, arriving on the scene shortly after the attack to escort the team to Wenchi, where they filed a report at the local police station.
“All members of the team, including our flagbearer, are safe,” Mr Ofori said, commending the police for their professionalism during the incident.
