A boat accident on Ghana’s Volta Lake left nine people dead on Wednesday evening after a vessel carrying 14 passengers capsized amid rough weather conditions, local authorities said.

The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. along the Yeji–Congo route, between Sikakope and Mataiko in the East Gonja District. Five male passengers were rescued, while the fatalities included women and children.

Mr.Salisu Be-Awuribe, the Savannah Regional Minister, said emergency response teams have been deployed and support is being mobilized for affected families.
