President John Dramani Mahama has announced that some ministries will not have deputy ministers as part of his commitment to maintaining a 60-member cabinet.
The declaration was made during the swearing-in ceremony of six newly approved ministers at the Jubilee House on January 22, 2025. Mahama explained that while some ministries would have deputy ministers, others would operate without them to ensure the total number of ministers stays at 60, in line with a promise made during his election campaign.
“As the ministers are approved by Parliament and sworn in, I will proceed to appoint deputy ministers for some ministries, ensuring the total number of ministers remains at 60, as I promised the people of Ghana,” Mahama said.
He added that the decision to forgo deputy ministers in selected ministries aligns with his goal of creating a leaner and more efficient government. “This will make this government the leanest and, I believe, the most efficient in Ghana’s history,” he stated.
The swearing-in ceremony also marked the official start of duties for key ministers, including Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson as Finance Minister, Dr. Dominic Ayine as Attorney General and Minister of Justice, and John Jinapor as Minister for Energy, among others.
