The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) is gearing up to take legal action against the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) after the body withheld the results of numerous students, delaying their release until after university admissions had closed.

In a formal notification issued on Monday, February 17, NUGS informed the Greater Accra Regional Police Command of its plans to stage a protest, demanding justice for students whose WASSCE results were either withheld or canceled.

NUGS President, Daniel Korley Botchway, spoke to Citi News, calling the move by WAEC a blatant abuse of power. He emphasized that the union’s protest was just the beginning. “We are seeking to shine a light on WAEC’s misuse of discretion, an injustice that must not go unchallenged,” Botchway said. “This is not just about a demonstration – we will take this matter to court, demanding a declaration to ensure that this doesn’t happen again, particularly with next year’s admissions process.”

As students face the consequences of delayed results, NUGS is determined to hold WAEC accountable and protect the interests of Ghanaian students.
