A senior official from the New York Police Department (NYPD) has reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to strengthening security cooperation with Ghana during a high-level visit to the country.

Roberto Rios, Chief of Intelligence and Counterterrorism at the NYPD, gave the assurance during a courtesy call on Ghana’s Interior Minister in Accra earlier this week. The meeting followed a recent visit by Ghana’s police leadership to New York and was aimed at deepening collaboration between the two security institutions.

Rios was accompanied by Christian Tetteh Yohuno, the Inspector General of the Ghana Police Service, who led the delegation to the office of Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak on Tuesday,March 10.

The visit underscored growing security ties between Ghana and the United States, with both sides highlighting the value of intelligence sharing, joint training and cooperation in tackling emerging security threats.

Mohammed-Mubarak welcomed the delegation and said the government remains committed to strengthening the operational capacity of the Ghana Police Service.

“Such collaborations improve operations and services in both countries,” the minister said, thanking the NYPD team for the visit.
Rios, in turn, expressed appreciation for the warm reception and reiterated the NYPD’s readiness to continue working closely with Ghanaian authorities to enhance policing and security expertise.
