OMCs Warn of Potential Fuel Shortages

The Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) has warned that Ghana could face a fuel shortage in the coming days due to disruptions in supply chains.

The warning comes after the suspension of the gold-for-oil programme and the cessation of refining activities by Sentuo Oil, which have contributed to a reduction in fuel availability.

Dr. Riverson Oppong, CEO of the OMCs, called for urgent government intervention, stating that the decline in supply was predictable after the gold-for-oil scheme reached its peak and the Sentuo Oil refinery halted operations. He further explained that Bulk Distribution Companies (BDCs) have stopped importing fuel, exacerbating the situation and leaving the market vulnerable to shortages, particularly in petroleum products like PMS.
