The People’s National Convention (PNC) has announced its support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its presidential candidate, John Mahama, ahead of Ghana’s December 7 general elections.

The decision follows the disqualification of the PNC’s own presidential candidate, and was made after a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Tuesday, November 26. During the meeting, a majority of the party’s executives supported aligning with the NDC.

In a press conference on Wednesday, November 27, PNC National Chairman Asaki Sampson Awingobit explained that, with just days to the elections, the party could not remain neutral. “We had 15 regional representatives for our NEC meeting today. At the end of the deliberation, the majority agreed that the PNC will support the NDC’s presidential candidate for the 2024 elections,” he said.
