President-elect John Dramani Mahama has mandated the parliamentary leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to nominate the Right Honourable Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin as Speaker of the 9th Parliament of Ghana’s Fourth Republic.

The directive, according to a press release signed by Mahama’s Special Aide, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, followed consultations with the NDC’s National Executive and Parliamentary Leadership.

The President-elect highlighted Bagbin’s distinguished career in public service, including his roles as Member of Parliament for Nadowli, Minority Leader, Majority Leader, and Speaker of the 8th Parliament.

Mahama also expressed confidence that Bagbin’s extensive experience would be critical in steering parliamentary affairs.

“Under his stewardship, Ghana’s Parliament will be further strengthened to deliver effectively on its oversight responsibilities,” the statement read.
