The Quarm-LMI Consortium, the government-appointed developer of the Saglemi Housing Project, has committed to completing more than 1,500 housing units within 400 days for public sale.
Managing Director of the consortium,Kofi Adabor Ofori-Amanfo,stated that structural integrity tests will be carried out on the existing buildings to evaluate their stability. In a media interview after a courtesy visit to the Ningo Traditional Council, he outlined plans to re-engineer certain parts of the structures to ensure they meet high safety and quality standards.
Originally intended to address Ghana’s housing deficit, the Saglemi Housing Project has faced significant delays and controversy since its inception.
“We are looking at around 400 days to ensure the entire project is completed for sale to the public,” Mr. Ofori-Amanfo stated. “We have inherited shell structures, and many will undergo structural integrity tests to ensure we are not selling unstable units.”
He noted that the development, which has been stagnant for over seven years, has suffered from adverse weather conditions and flooding in some areas. “We need to undertake substantial re-engineering to address these issues,” he added.
