The Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau of Ghana is expected to release its final report Tuesday on the fatal microlight aircraft crash in Tema that killed two brothers earlier this year.

John Mmeb Kunyan Wumborti, commissioner of the bureau, said investigators had completed an extensive inquiry into the March 16 accident and would present both their findings and safety recommendations aimed at preventing similar incidents.

“We have done diligent work,” Mr. Wumborti said ahead of the report’s release. “We have gone into all lengths to find out what really happened.”
The aircraft, a microlight bearing registration number 9G-ADV, was traveling from Ho to Accra when it crashed near a school park in Tema Community One before bursting into flames, according to eyewitness accounts.
Emergency responders were dispatched to contain the fire and carry out rescue and recovery efforts, but both occupants aboard the aircraft died at the scene.

Mr. Wumborti said some aspects of the investigation had been delayed by pending documents, including autopsy reports, though the bureau decided to proceed with publication of the report.

The findings are expected to shed light on the circumstances surrounding one of Ghana’s deadliest recent aviation incidents involving a privately operated microlight aircraft.
