Minister of State in charge of Government Communications and spokesperson for President John Dramani Mahama, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has defended the government’s decision to revoke post-December 7 appointments, calling out irregularities in the recruitment process.

His comments came after Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, urged President Mahama to reconsider the revocation of these appointments.

In a press briefing in Accra on Wednesday, February 19, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu made it clear that the decision was not politically motivated but rooted in a series of issues with how the appointments were made.

“We are not acting on the belief that these appointments were tied to the NPP,” Mr.Kwakye Ofosu stated. “It’s about the irregularities we found in the recruitment process.” He pointed to cases where individuals were given backdated letters to make it seem like they had been hired well before the elections, while others skipped interviews and failed to submit formal applications.

Mr.Kwakye Ofosu emphasized that such irregularities could not be overlooked, assuring the public that new recruitment processes would be open and fair, irrespective of political affiliation. “We will conduct a transparent recruitment process where your party identity won’t matter,” he said.

He reassured those affected by the revocation that they would still be able to reapply, going through a proper and regular process. “They will have the chance to reapply and follow due process,” he added, reinforcing the government’s commitment to a fair and inclusive recruitment system.
