The University of Ghana has suspended Dr. Sampson Obed Appiah, a senior lecturer in the Sociology Department, for two semesters following allegations of sexual harassment.

The disciplinary action was confirmed in a notice issued on March 12, 2025, signed by the University’s Registrar, Mrs. Emelia Agyei-Mensah. Dr. Appiah’s misconduct violated the institution’s Sexual Harassment and Misconduct Policy and the Code of Conduct for Academic Staff, the notice stated.

As part of the sanction, Dr. Appiah is required to issue a formal written apology to the complainant and is barred from applying for promotion for one year after his suspension. Additionally, he will undergo training on sexual harassment and misconduct, facilitated by the University’s Anti-Sexual Harassment Committee.

The University has also urged its community members to review and adhere to the institution’s regulations, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a respectful and appropriate environment for all.
