Thousands of mourners gathered Saturday at Ghana’s State House to honor two brothers killed in a microlight aircraft crash in Tema earlier this month, in a ceremony that drew senior government officials, lawmakers and members of the public.

Frank Amoaning Donkor and Elijah Ofori Donkor died when the aircraft they were traveling in from Ho went down near a school, which  has prompted renewed attention to small-aircraft safety in the country.

The funeral, held two weeks after the crash, brought together family members, church congregants, aviation enthusiasts and sympathizers, many of whom filed past in quiet tribute. Several high-ranking officials attended, including representatives from both sides of Parliament, as well as senior figures from the executive branch.

In remarks ahead of the burial, the brothers’ father, Elder Frank Kwabena Donkor, described speaking with his sons just minutes before the crash underscoring the suddenness of the loss.
Saturday’s service was marked by visible grief, with mourners consoling one another as they paid their final respects to the two young men.
