President John Dramani Mahama has terminated COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah’s appointment as the Executive Director of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO).
According to sources at the presidency, reported by 3news.com, COP Addo-Danquah has been instructed to hand over her duties to her deputy and return to the Ghana Police Headquarters for reassignment.
The directive comes amidst efforts by the government to restructure EOCO, an agency tasked with investigating and prosecuting economic crimes and corruption. President Mahama’s decision is believed to be aimed at reinvigorating the agency and addressing public concerns over its recent performance, particularly in high-profile financial crime cases.
COP Addo-Danquah, who was appointed EOCO boss in July 2021, brought with her a wealth of experience from her long career in the Ghana Police Service. However, her tenure at EOCO has faced scrutiny, with some critics questioning the agency’s handling of major investigations.
3news.com further reports that this directive is part of a broader plan to strengthen key law enforcement agencies and restore public trust in anti-corruption efforts. COP Addo-Danquah’s reassignment to the Police Headquarters will see her resume duties in the service where she has previously excelled in high-ranking positions, including her role as the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID)
As she exits her role, her deputy at EOCO is expected to oversee the agency’s operations until a permanent replacement is appointed. This transitional arrangement is reportedly intended to ensure continuity while the Presidency works on identifying new leadership for the organization.
President Mahama’s move underscores his administration’s commitment to enhancing accountability and efficiency in the fight against organized crime and corruption.
