Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has spoken publicly for the first time since being admitted to hospital for urgent medical treatment.

The Vice President, who fell ill after work on Friday, March 28, was taken to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) on March 29. An official statement from the presidency confirmed that she received prompt care at the facility. While the statement did not disclose the nature of her illness, it assured the public that she is stable and has been advised to seek further medical attention abroad as a precaution.

The news of her hospitalization sparked widespread concern across the country, with many Ghanaians, including political figures, religious leaders, and citizens, expressing their well wishes and prayers for her swift recovery.

In a statement marking Eid Mubarak to the Muslim community, Vice President Opoku-Agyemang thanked the public for their support and kind messages. “Likewise, I would like to say thank you to everyone for the kind sentiments and well wishes this weekend,” she said, expressing her deep gratitude for the outpouring of goodwill.

Despite her brief message, the Vice President reassured the nation of her appreciation for the ongoing prayers and support.

Further reassurance came from Eric Adjei, CEO of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) and a former deputy spokesperson for Opoku-Agyemang during the 2024 election campaign. Adjei shared an update via social media, confirming that the Vice President was in good health. “Our mother, the Vice President, is in good health, thanks to God’s grace,” he wrote. “I’ve received updates from the team, and Mum is doing very well by His grace.”
